Position Summary

A postdoctoral scholar position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Melina Kibbe. We are looking for an extremely talented and highly motivated biomedical engineer/polymer chemist/organic chemist/medicinal chemist PhD to work on the development and characterization of novel graft materials to treat neointimal hyperplasia in a guinea pig model.

The goal of this position is to expand on previously published work using biocompatible polymers to synthesize grafts that provide renewable reservoirs of small molecule therapies at the site of vascular intervention. The next steps involve synthesis and characterization of novel graft materials, as well as in vivo evaluation (including toxicity, safety, biodistribution, and efficacy) of these materials.

This work will involve designing studies, conducting experiments, and analyzing and interpreting results from these experiments.

The selected candidate will also be responsible for the preparation of manuscripts related to these projects and submission of the manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

This position will devote the following effort:
•70% – Conducting bench research
•10% – Instructing graduate students and other laboratory members in laboratory techniques
•10% – Assisting with manuscript preparation and submission
•10% – Assisting with grant preparation and submission

Educational Requirements

PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must have a strong background and research experience in synthetic, organic, or polymer chemistry. Experience in vascular biology, animal surgery, tissue harvesting, tissue sectioning, fluorescent microscopy, chemiluminescent nitric oxide measurement, and standard laboratory techniques (UV-vis spectroscopy, ELISA, western blotting) is preferred.

This position also requires evidence of: publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, presentations at national/international scientific meetings, and preparation and submission of applications for external grant funding.
