Position Summary

PlayMakers Master Carpenter’s primary responsibility is to build and/or modify scenery as needed for productions while serving as a Carpenter/welder, and general technician for PlayMakers Repertory Company productions. The Master Carpenter assists in instructing and supervising graduate and undergraduate students in the scene shop and assists in maintaining facility, equipment and supplies. This position encompasses scenery construction, collaborating with other production and technical departments, equipping and maintaining all shop areas, and purchasing materials.

Education Requirements

BA/BFA in Theatre, MFA preferred.

Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of three years’ experience in theatre. Must be a highly motivated, self-starter with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and managerial skills. Must successfully demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of structural analysis as it pertains to theatre, as well as a working knowledge of a variety of construction skills, including, but not limited to, woodworking, welding, rigging and metalworking. Must also be proficient in the operation and maintenance of a wide variety of shop equipment. A working knowledge of PC computer skills as well as, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and AutoCAD. Ability to work with and train multi-skill level crews including professional staff, graduate students and undergraduate students.
