Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Director of Development is to secure private gifts to support the fundraising priorities of the School of Media and Journalism by helping donors fulfill their passions and interests through their giving. This position will develop and manage a portfolio of major donor prospects assuring that as many as possible are retained as continued donors to the organization and are upgraded in their giving and involvement. Activity and performance toward meeting established goals will be tracked through a data management system. This position sets assertive goals and monitor progress toward goals; oversees the management of the school’s annual fund program; and manages development operations.

Educational Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Qualifications and Experience

This position requires 10 years of direct fundraising experience, specifically in individual major gifts with a working knowledge of gift planning; annual fund experience, in a non-profit or university setting; and a demonstrated ability to represent an organization to multiple audiences with segment-specific messages; exceptional written and oral communication; ability to work effectively with volunteer boards; experience in a comprehensive fundraising campaign; willingness to travel.
