Position Summary

Title: Music Producer

Reporting: The Music Producer reports to the Program Director.

The Position: The Music Producer is in charge of creating and maintaining a database of music used for a new music discovery service that will engage listeners across the state and around the globe. This position requires the ability to take an editorial lead on the creation and maintenance of the sound of WUNC Music, make independent decisions that work within the broader goals of WUNC and work flexible hours. The Music Producer will acquire new and interesting music, enter it into a database and tag it with metadata needed for creative programming and presentation. This will include work with complex library, database management, music scheduling and radio automation software. We are seeking a self-starter and creative thinker who will use his/her passion for music to help us build and maintain a cutting edge library.

The Music Producer will work with record labels, artists and distributors to acquire material. S/he will also produce audio and digital content to be used online and on-air that could include promos, continuity breaks, artist profiles and podcasts.

Educational Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, library science, music or a related field

Qualifications and Experience

At least three years of professional experience in radio, music and/or creative database management work

Exceptional written and oral communication skills

Creativity and initiative

High attention to detail

Experience producing audio for broadcast

Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines, working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators

Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues effectively and collaboratively

Thorough knowledge of radio broadcasting equipment including digital editing programs, broadcast consoles, and portable recording devices

A familiarity with North Carolina’s music scene

Experience with public radio or related not-for-profit fundraising
