Position Summary

The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an individual to serve as a research associate. This person will assist in contributing to a program of rigorous research focused on informing, designing, developing, and evaluating social interventions and social policies that strengthen individuals, families and communities. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr. Mark F. Testa, Spears-Turner Distinguished Professor to conduct research focused on child welfare.

Educational Requirements

PhD degree in social work required with coursework and/or advanced study in intervention research, research and statistics, computer programming and child welfare. Applicants must also possess an M.S.W. degree from a CSWE accredited School of Social Work.

Qualifications and Experience

The individual hired for this position will need to have strong technical and computer skills and be able to work independently. We are particularly interested in candidates who have expertise in research design and methodology as well as in statistical methods, such as structural equation modeling, hierarchical linear modeling, propensity score analysis, and other advanced techniques. Familiarity with the statistical program STATA and child welfare data sets such as AFCARS, NCANDS, and NSCAW is desired. Experience in survey design and measurement is desired. A record of peer-review publications in social work and family-related journals is desired, including research publications using samples from child welfare.
