Position Summary

Design, construction, and characterization of optogenetic proteins. This position will primarily focus on constructing light-activated analogs of proteins implicated in the pathways that control medium spiny neuron (MSN) electrophysiology. These studies are designed to correlate MSN biochemical activity with specific organismal behaviors, including addiction and locomotion. The candidate is expected to work in a team environment, contribute to the scientific development of graduate students, present at scientific meetings and prepare manuscripts for publication.

Educational Requirements

PhD in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology or related field

Qualifications and Experience

Experience with standard molecular biology techniques (multiple cloning methods), protein expression/characterization, cell culture, and live cell imaging/fluorescence microscopy.
