Position Summary

Reporting: The Broadcast News Producer (AKA State of Things Producer) creates and produces content for WUNC’s daily news and public affairs programs. These programs include interviews and analysis on many subjects (news, culture, etc.) in North Carolina.

As news events do not conform to a regular 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, there will be times when the Broadcast News Producer will be called on for work during weekends and after hours.

Educational Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of experience as a journalist and/or radio producer, preferably in a public radio newsroom.

Qualifications and Experience

The Broadcast News Producer will be an experienced broadcaster with strong production and communication skills.

Leading candidates will have:
Exceptional written and oral communication skills

Creativity and initiative

Demonstrated expertise in researching topics for news and interview broadcasts

Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines, working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators

Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues effectively and collaboratively

Demonstrated ability to include diverse stories and participants in programming

Thorough knowledge of radio broadcasting equipment including digital editing programs, broadcast consoles, and portable recording devices

A familiarity with North Carolina’s issues

Experience with public radio or related not-for-profit fundraising
