Description of Work

These positions are designed to be filled by persons who are currently enrolled in local high schools or recent graduates.

Youth Radio Reporters will be asked to pitch, report, write and produce radio news stories on assignment for possible broadcast on North Carolina Public Radio – WUNC. This is a unique opportunity for high school students to tell stories about their community in their own voice. The job site is at the WUNC production facility at American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham. The Summer Youth Reporting Institute runs roughly June 14-August 10, 2018.

Education and Experience

These positions are designed to be filled by persons who are currently enrolled in local high schools or recent graduates.

Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency: or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
This job requires good writing and speaking skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:
Additionally, successful applicants will be good listeners, writers and verbal communicators. Successful applicants will also be adept at working with computers and new technology. Students will work with digital audio recording equipment, audio editing software and basic office computer programs.

Applicants with all levels of experience will be considered.
