Position Summary

The proteomic unit at The Cystic Fibrosis/Pulmonary Research Center at University of North Carolina is recruiting an enthusiastic scientist to study and develop novel proteomic-based methods to determine the mucin-interactome and biomarkers in the airway secretions from normal, smokers and COPD patients. This study will employ a broad range of biochemical and biophysical methods including, mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS), light scattering, and electron microscopy. Our laboratory in the Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Research and Treatment Center is one of the best equipped and most focused mucin/mucus biochemistry and biophysics innate immunity laboratories in the USA. As such, it will provide the selected candidate with a unique opportunity to develop new skills and apply them to fundamental questions in innate lung defense. The research environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers an excellent opportunity for career development.

Educational Requirements

The candidate must have a Ph.D. or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited US or foreign institution.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a PhD degree in biochemistry and related areas, plus hands on experience with mass spectrometry based proteomics applications, protein separation and protein chemistry. Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to get along with co-workers and faculty in multi-disciplinary research teams, are essential. Applicants should have demonstrated scientific productivity and be able to work independently from, but cooperate closely with the primary investigator.
